I was sought out to do an illustration in my own style for an unsanctioned Beijing marathon. The client had a single request: provide an illustration that gives a sense of the Beijing canal network.
Having lived in Beijing from 2011 to 2012, I referred to several old photographs of mine for inspiration. From them I distilled down the creative concept I found most fascinating: the symmetry and linear perspective of organic and inorganic elements.
Upon client requests, I provided a color palette that could be used for the final versions of the design. There were three in total, as seen below, to represent each of the distinct run categories for the event.
